Works for Me Wednesday

Thanks for sharing your tip, Sherida, and introducing me to this cool idea from Rocks in My Dryer! What fun!

What has worked WONDERS for me and L...

The Baby Taco

Some call it swaddling...the burrito....taco is just more fun to say!

In my minds eye, I will forever see Bonnie, my birthing nurse, as a saintly wonder women (complete with a heavenly glow, but that might have been from crazy labor and 3 epidurals). Amazing what a shower can do for an hour old mom...and she caringly helped through my time of GREAT need. And THEN she handed me my bundle of joy in this perfect receiving blanketed package that was....perfect.

While I could never come close to swaddling with her skill, I kept trying our first few days at home and found my own way. I'm sure it's not for every baby, but Linnea would fall right to sleep. So, late night feedings, even when she was just a few weeks old, lasted around a half hour for diaper change, bottle, and taco. This really helped save time during the few months I pumped after each feeding.

A simple, inexpensive thermal blanket works the best. (Thanks, Em) It has a lot of give so you can get a snug wrap, but thin and cotton so baby doesn't need another bath in the morning after sweating all night long. Receiving blankets are only good for about a month before babe is too big.

The technique: Fold blanket into a triangle, pointing at feet. Place baby in middle so shoulders are just below top. Fold right point over baby and tuck as far under baby's left arm and back as possible. The trick here is to keep flailing baby arms at sides. Don't despair....that's the hardest part to conquer....just keep trying! Now repeat with left point. Forget about trying to do anything with the bottom point of blanket. Baby will only kick it off 5 minutes later.

L is almost 7 months old and can easily wiggle free off her taco, but when the moment is right, drifts quickly off...and I then I have time to check out my favorite blogs!

Where Has May Gone?!?

And this week, for that matter! A H-R was with M, L and I Monday, so that flew by. Today was there and gone. I just noticed I've only got four posts in for May.

L was sound asleep when we got hometonight. Had to get a picture of her and Tasha from Backyardigans.

Saturday L met her Arizona relatives at G'G R's in Holland. What a beautiful day for visiting. L took a long nap outside in a baby tent I found at a garage sale.

She's Feelin' Snacky

Glassy eyed L enjoys her first biscut Monday morning before M's arrival. She wasn't really impressed. It kept her busy for a while, though, and I had her prepared for a mess.

Play Time

Big girl L and I are working out a new (I know, ever changing) schedule, so a great playtime came tonight around 9 after a long nap and a bath. We chatted, sang, stacked toys, watched the dog do HIS thing, burped (L), yawned and laughed (both), and drooled (L, of course).

L's balance is getting so good. She can look all around and reach (surprisingly far) without falling over MOst of the time!

6 Month Well Baby

Last week was Linnea's 6 monther with Dr. M-S. All is well...17 lbs; 25 1/2 in; big head. Shots were painful; VERY greatful no more until 12 months!!! Her LAST (I'm confident) ultrasound will be at the end of the month. This is just to make sure the extra fluid in her both kidneys are going away on it's own, as predicted.
We have been VERY lucky to enjoy 6 months with only one tiny baby cold. Alas....L's first prescription of medicine. She's got a cold in her eye's! I've given her drops 2 times now and it is NOT fun...poor thing. But again....I'm greatful she has no symptoms other than sad eyes. :(

Sucker!

Sweet L played peek-a-boo around the camera this morning.

I had a few nervous minutes last night after I noticed L's purple lip! You can see it in this picture. I checked fingers and toes making sure her skin wasn't blue or purple, than checked her area to make sure there was nothing she put in her mouth that could have caused it. Tried wiping it off...didn't work. And all this time, Linnea is watching me as I search and wonder, sucking on her lip....her purple lip. She's got a hickey on her lip! Oh, L!
